Talent readiness is key. Today we graduate a lower percentage of Science and Engineering grads than Russia and China. We are faced with fewer students due to demographic shifts and the alarming decrease of foreign talent attracted to U.S. Schools...
Wake up calls! There will be more. Will the U.S. react?

Given the recent 4 year period (2001 till about now) where many of us very well educated and experienced engineers couldn't get the time of day from a company, let alone a job... It's no surprise we can't convince highschool students to go into tech. Personally, as one of those engineers who was unemployed (or underemployed) much of the time from mid-2001 till early 2004, I have a hard time recommending engineering to highschool students. It's just too damn easy to move engineering jobs overseas.
In my case I did choose to go back to school to work on a Masters degree instead of sitting around the house, but I'm really not convinced that it's going to help much in the next wave of offshoring. Supposedly things are starting to turn around, but I'll believe it when I've got a permanant gig with benefits again.
